The scale is often the first thing we look at when we try to lose weight. But is it really the best tool? Not always.

In this article I explain why the number on the scale can be deceiving and how to monitor your progress in a more intelligent and motivating way.

The scale doesn’t tell the whole truth
Body weight varies every day for a thousand reasons: liquids, hormones, digestion, stress. In addition, fat mass and muscle mass weigh differently but count the same.

This is why you can lose weight without losing weight, especially if you are also doing toning exercises.

Alternative ways to evaluate your progress
Measure your circumferences (waist, hips, thighs): they are much more reliable than weight.

Progress photos: a photo every 1-2 weeks can show incredible changes.

Clothes: when they start to feel looser, it’s a sign that you are going in the right direction.

Energy and strength: do you feel less tired? Can you do more push-ups? Great sign!

Mood and motivation: mental well-being is also progress.

When to weigh yourself (if you really want to)
Always at the same time (better in the morning on an empty stomach)

No more than 1 time a week

Without obsessing over numbers: look at the average over time, not the value of the day

Conclusion
Losing weight is much more than losing weight. Learn to listen to your body, measure the results intelligently and enjoy even the small changes. The journey counts more than the number on the scale!
